Kissing Penguins Christmas Card

I've been very lax with this blog .... started off with the best of intentions and then didn't post for an age.  I've made up my mind to post more often and try and get back into blogging, both here and my soaping blog at http://www.soaperstar.blogspot.com.

I've been making some new cards recently and I'll be posting them on here.... so here's the first one to show off! This I'm calling Kissing Penguins.

The background piece of card was cut with the pinked type die from the Femme Frames set from Mama Elephant.  I stamped the background with the Be Merry border stamp that you'll find in the Lawn Fawn Peace Love Joy stamp set; then I die cut the white tag from the small journalling die from the Lawn Fawn set, Stitched Journalling Card which I then stamped with some love hearts fromWplus9 Design Studio, Little Bits stamp set. The word Christmas comes from Simon Says Stamp set, Holiday Hellos, the love word stamp is from Lawn Fawn's Peace Love Joy stamp set (as linked above).

Kissing Penguins, Glitter Heart Design

The penguins are digital stamps from Jane's Doodles, Penguins with Hat ... I simply rotated one of the penguins so they turned the other way around; both were coloured using Spectrum Noir alcohol markers. The Merry Kissmas stamp is from the Big Holiday Wishes stamp set from Simon Says Stamp and was heat embossed with Hero Arts white embossing powder on red cardstock from Papercutz, which had been die cut using My Favorite Things Pierced Fishtail Dies.  I didn't want the actual fishtail end on the banner, so, once die cut, I turned the die around and recut it with the square end, ending up with a rectangular banner with that lovely pierced design all around it.

The penguins were covered with a layer of Wink of Stella Clear Glitter and the hats glued using Ranger Glossy Accents.  I glued the background piece to the card base, popped up my penguins with foam tape and popped up the banner too.  Then I finished the card with a couple of glossy glittery gold enamel dots.

Hope you like the card and that I've managed to describe the making of it and link to enough of the products.  I'd love to hear your feedback on the card, thank so much for reading!

Happy Monday and new stuff!

This morning is Monday which is usually a bleurgh day at best.  However, it's lashing rain and cold and so windy, it'd blow your hair off.  And I'm in work.  Is that a triple bleurgh day?

Ah, but to cheer me up, several orders arrived, yay!!! I don't have pics but I'll link to the suppliers... first off is a new set (for me) from Lawn Fawn (in the course of this blog you'll see that I am in heart with them, big time).  Titch, our honorary daughter, found out her Aunt is pregnant and I wanted to make a card for them to say congrats so I got this:

It's called Plus One and I thought it was sooooooooooooooooooooo cute! Plus great for any other baby type cards, before and after the baby is due plus for baby showers.

Then I got the Bannerific stamp set with matching dies ... I thought these would be SO useful for all sorts of cards!

Then, I had gotten a missed parcel note from the Post Office, so we swung around there to pick it up (before work of course, I got up early to do it!).

So, in my second delivery was:

Simply Said: Love Clear Stamps - I thought these would be so useful! And I love the one that says "you more than bacon" ... how cool is that for a guy??

Corner Chomper - I've wanted this for an age!!!

Year Three Birthday Clear Stamp ... it was a little one, but cute!

Stitched Journalling Die ... whilst I don't do journalling, I love the stitching effect and what great shapes.  I've wanted this forever and it's out of stock in so many places (including where I purchased it to be honest) but I HAD to have it!!!

Memonto Luxe Gray Fannel Pigment Ink... I just needed to try this, grey is so classy!

So that's why today is a good day... now it's a real pity I can't stay home and craft!!!!

Happy Monday to you all x

Welcome to Glitter Heart Design & a Peek at some new Cards

A first post on a brand new blog.  It's like taking out a fresh piece of white paper and writing in the blackest of black ink, with an antique fountain pen, the nib scritching and scratching away.  Love it.

Glitter Heart Design... and what might this be? Well, it's a new blog dedicated to handmade cards and papercrafting.  Some people may know that I run my own handmade soap company, http://www.iamhandmade.com and know that I simply adore making soap, love fragrances, colour and glitter.  Because my ethos is everything handmade, I started to get interested in papercrafting because I make all my own packaging for my soaps.  I use a LOT of card doing this and, well those who are papercrafters will understand that once you start buying a lot of card, it's a slippery slope into cutters and scorers and glue and inks and stamps and ..... glitter! My glitter of glitter is nothing new, I am a magpie at heart .. a glitter magpie if you will... I am attracted to great scents, fun colours and anything shiny and new.  Hence glitter heart, because, at heart, I'm a glitter girl!

And so Glitter Heart Designs was born.  This will be my brand for card making and other papercrafting.  And to start us off on what I hope will become a happy and successful blog, here are some images from very recently made Valentine's cards.

The backgrounds for these cards are both made with the Falling Hearts Stencil from Simon Says Stamp and Wendy Vecchi Embossing Paste.  Once I'd removed the stencil, I sprinkled some Martha Stewart Glitter on top (red for the top card and pink for the second).  Leaving the backgrounds to dry, I then die cut the cute little birds from the Science in Love stamp set from Lawn Fawn and coloured them with Copic markers.  The sentiment was from the same set which I stamped with Versamark ink and embossed on both banners.  The top card used red card from Stampin Up and the second was a piece of white Neenah Solar White cardstock coloured with a choice of Copic Markers (pinks and purples) which I think gave a fab effect ... love the final colour.  The sentiments were then both embossed with Ranger Embossing Powder, the superfine detail one.  I then put the card together, adding the background to the front of the card using foam tape, then gluing the feet of the birds to the banner so that it was flush but then adding foam tape to the banner and the birds heads so it would all sit at the same height.  And that was that!

It was the first time I'd used embossing paste or my stencils so I was pretty happy it worked out.  I love the glitter on them but the pink didn't seem to hold as well as the red for some reason.  Oh I used some Glossy Accents on the birds glasses... I love the shine it gives (glitter and shine, oh boy!).

I hope you like the first look at my cards... I'm pretty much starting out on this and learning as I go (as I have done with soaping) and I hope I can achieve the designs of some of the card markers I watch on You Tube all the time.

Hope you like, would love to hear back from you!

Best
